In Alberta, we rely on our neighbours, in ways both big and small.
Our neighbours often help us out, by bringing in the mail when we're on vacation, or letting us know that we left the sprinkler running, or shoveling our sidewalk if we can't can't do it ourselves. And one day, if there's an emergency, we know they'll be among the first ones to come running and save the day.
The last thing we should be doing to our neighbours is tattling on them for having a friend over for coffee, or spending needed time with family, especially during the holidays. We don't know the circumstances of someone else's life. We don't know what they are going through, or why and how they are suffering. And even if they don't have a perfect reason, they -- like us -- are only human, and will sometimes falter during a struggle that has lasted so many months.
Show your support for neighbourliness -- and basic human decency -- by pledging not to call the police on them.
