Before the Alberta election, the CBC claimed that Premier Danielle Smith or her staff sent e-mails interfering with criminal prosecutions. Now that the election is over, the CBC has been forced to admit that they never had any evidence that those e-mails ever existed.
What the CBC claimed was false. And it may have interfered with our democratic election.
Enough is enough. It's clear that the CBC cannot be trusted to fulfill its role of a neutral public broadcaster. It's bad enough when any media organization makes false claims that influence public opinion or especially if they swing an election, but for the state broadcaster to do it is unforgivable.
It's time for the federal government to act. While it's unlikely that Justin Trudeau will do anything about it -- after all, he's probably the biggest beneficiary of CBC bias -- Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has promised to defund the CBC if he becomes Prime Minister (and turn their headquarters into affordable housing). Let's get behind this idea, and hold our politicians accountable to make good on promises that make sense.
Tell Pierre Poilievre and Justin Trudeau: it's time to finally defund the CBC. For good.
